How do you detail metal against wood, brick and fiber cement?

Where metal meets wood or fiber cement, the metal should carry a receiver or J-trim with a drainage path, and the joint should be a shadow gap or trimmed reveal — not a bead of sealant asked to bridge two materials that move differently.
